Hi,This is something I've wondered about ever since I started reading manga or watching anime. There is a scene thathappens in almost every romantic relationship. The boy and girl quarrel. He's very cold or slighting to her. She runs away from him crying. Then a man or a couple of men appear and threaten her. They either proposition her or attempt to assault her.At that point, the boy shows up and either fights them or scares them away. The fight is forgotten and their relationship is generally stronger after this scene. The pattern is repeated in lots of stories with only the smallest of changes. Sometimes, it doesn't even make sense because she's a better fighter than he is.American fictionhas trite variations on the moustached villain tying the screaming heroine to the railroad tracks while the stalwart hero gallops up. So maybe it's nothing special.I read somewhere, (this may be completely wrong), that a formal phrase of proposing was something like, "I would like to protect you." I wonder if that is tied in with this scene.I'm probably making this more significant than it really is.

Hello

Well, it seems that the things you mention are common in any romantic relationship, whether real or imagined, so it's pretty natural for them to be included in manga, I think? That kind of "drama" is interesting to people...hence soap operas...and blogs XD

...and I like reading about "knights in shining armor." It's nice to have ideals to dream about
